About ESPN Radio 1350 WOYK
As York's first radio station and pioneering radio voice, WOYK treated York to its first taste of the magic of radio on March 17, 1932. WOYK came on the air with the call letters "WORK", which were used until 1974.

WORK was famous for its local programming, featuring many local broadcasts of high school sports, a tradition that continues to this day. WORK was affiliated with the NBC radio network through 1973, bringing York content programming such as the Jack Benny Show, the Fred Allen Show, the NBC news and all those great, classic radio shows of the 1930s and 1940s.

As the only radio station in York county for over 10 years, WORK told Yorkers about the Lindbergh kidnapping, the Great Depression, the attack of Pearl Harbor and World War II on their local station. Things continued to improve after World War II, as WORK was granted a power increase shortly after the war, increasing power five times, making WORK the most powerful radio station between Philadelphia, Baltimore and Pittsburgh. It took other local stations almost 15 years to catch up!

Today, WOYK still operates on 1350 kHz, with a power of 5,000 watts - the most power licensed to any radio station outside of Philadelphia and Baltimore. In fact, until the mid 1950s, we were the only radio station in York that was permitted by the FCC to broadcast at night.
